Red Hat makes RHEL first-party on OCI and puts OpenShift subscriptions in Oracle Marketplace

The arrangement changes both the operating-system delivery path and how customers can procure Red Hat’s platform portfolio with Oracle cloud credits.

By The News Desk· Oct 19, 2026the quick take — two AI hosts go live when you do

Red Hat has made Red Hat Enterprise Linux available as a first-party offering in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console and added subscriptions for RHEL, Red Hat OpenShift, OpenShift Virtualization and Ansible Automation Platform to Oracle Marketplace. The October 19 announcement changes both the technical delivery path for RHEL on OCI and the procurement route for a broader portion of Red Hat’s platform portfolio.

What changed

RHEL 9 and 10 images for Intel and AMD fully virtualized OCI instances can now be obtained directly through the OCI console. Red Hat says the images include Oracle-specific performance profiles and connect to OCI monitoring, command-line, API and console services. Oracle provides front-line support under the first-party arrangement, while the existing bring-your-own-subscription option remains available.

The commercial change is wider than RHEL. Customers can now buy subscriptions for RHEL, OpenShift, OpenShift Virtualization and Ansible Automation Platform through Oracle Marketplace. Red Hat says purchases can draw down Oracle Universal Credits; RHEL for OCI also supports pay-as-you-go billing metered per Oracle CPU-hour.

The companies also disclosed additional validation work. Oracle AI Database 26ai is certified on RHEL 8, 9 and 10. Red Hat has validated Oracle Database 19c RAC and Oracle AI Database 26ai for on-premises deployment on OpenShift Virtualization, along with Oracle WebLogic Server on OpenShift Virtualization.

Who it affects

The immediate audience is platform teams that already have Oracle cloud commitments but want Red Hat’s operating system, Kubernetes platform, virtualization layer or automation tooling. The marketplace route can reduce a separate procurement path, while the first-party RHEL images establish an OCI-native support and telemetry model.

The announcement does not describe a new managed OpenShift service on OCI. It makes Red Hat subscriptions purchasable through Oracle Marketplace and makes RHEL itself a first-party OCI console offering. Teams should keep that distinction clear when comparing it with fully managed Kubernetes services.

What to evaluate

Organizations considering the new route should compare first-party RHEL billing and support with their current bring-your-own-subscription terms, confirm that Oracle Universal Credits apply to the intended products, and verify the available instance shapes and regions in the OCI console. OpenShift Virtualization users evaluating Oracle workloads should also separate Red Hat’s stated validation scope from their own application, storage and support requirements before moving production systems.
